Dr. Silverman is a practicing physician who is board certified in Internal and Emergency Medicine and has a Master’s degree in clinical research. He has been the principal investigator or participated in national and regional clinical trials and epidemiologic studies. His studies have focused on reducing morbidity and mortality for chronic illness with high levels of resource utilization and recidivism. Areas of special research include asthma and diabetes. Dr. Silverman works with large databases to identify and help explain patterns and trends of morbidity. He also advises clinicians on protocol development for the demonstration of clinical utility of new or refined clinical techniques/procedures. He is helping to develop data analytic tools for the earlier detection of chronic disease in large health care systems. He has helped to develop and legislate the New York State SPARCS data collection system for emergency visits to allow state wide surveillance, complementing the SPARCS hospitalization database. He currently chairs regional data and surveillance committees convened to reduce asthma morbidity in the NY metropolitan region.
